THE WANDERLUSTERS MIND PODCAST
Connecting with people to really understand cultures with Claudia Neiman
Claudia is an organised creative which, although may sound oxymoronic, means that she is able to address problems in a open way and is willing to turn things upside down if that makes the most sense. Claudia is passionate about learning and the environment and her goal in life is to be happy (happiness is defined both by fulfilment and the ability to enjoy this feeling).
Claudia has travelled to many different cultures and spent a lot of time living in Spain. She is not in Finland working on projects surrounding cultural differences around the world.
About Claudia
Claudia is an organised creative which, although may sound oxymoronic, means that she is able to address problems in a open way and is willing to turn things upside down if that makes the most sense. Claudia is passionate about learning and the environment and her goal in life is to be happy (happiness is defined both by fulfilment and the ability to enjoy this feeling).
“If you are going to experience other cultures, you are going to experience culture shock and if you don’t, its like learning how to swim without water.”
In the episode...
Claudia has travelled to many countries with differing cultures.
Claudia felt outside of her comfort zone when she was in Brazil and decided to hitchhike and got into a car with a local.
She spend her first day in class in Spain with the teacher stereotyping Americans.
You have to really understand the culture, you really have to spend quite a bit of time in that place.
The real reason Claudia travels is for the people, the food, the experience that is like nothing that she has had before.
How travel teaches you that there are so many different ways of doing things, not only one way!
Claudia’s biggest insight and learning from travel is seeing how we are all connected and how we can get to know people even if we dont speak their language.
Until we actually connect and have conversations with people we actually have no idea about their lives and their culture.
If you haven’t had the experience of being a foreigner in another country, its really hard to know how difficult it can be to be judged for how you look, your race, sexual orientation, gender etc
Claudia attempts to understand many different perspectives and be open to other peoples opinions.
Travel has taught Claudia that we are all just looking for the place where we fit in.
When everyone follows their own path and does their own things, it makes like interesting.
Travel is what YOU make it! Whatever feels right for you can be the basis of your travels. Do what FEELS good for you.
How travel should not just be about bucket lists and ticking a box.
Rapid fire round

About Anna
Anna Lundberg is the founder of One Step Outside, where she helps people around the world build businesses and create a lifestyle that allows them an unimagined sense of freedom, flexibility and fulfilment. Since leaving her corporate job in 2013, she's now reimagining what success looks like and she's passionate about inspiring and supporting others to do the same.
Her lust for travel all started with a sabbatical. Anna was between roles in her corporate job and her boss granted her a three-month break so that she could travel across South America. Halfway through that trip, Anna quit her job completely. For the next couple of years she took on consulting projects and travel between contracts. Once she realised that this was essentially just more of the same type of work, just for different companies, she 'quit' again and became fully nomadic as she trained to be a coach and built her business. Finally, she went 'back' to London, where she is now creating a base and opportunity to travel while feeling grounded and having more of a sense of belonging.
“Whatever you are doing, do it intentionally.”
In the episode...
Anna went to South and Central America cruising around the Galapagos, trekking the inca trail and many more adventures after she quit her job.
Anna did a little bit of consulting work before quitting and becoming nomadic.
Anna went paddle boarding down the Mississippi but let her intuition and events in her life guide her on her journeys.
Was confronted with a terrifying incident where her travel partner had a gun pulled on her.
The importance of getting out of your comfort zone whilst also being safe on your travels.
Settling back home was great as she was able to reconnect with her family and friends whilst also meeting her partner. Her internal challenge was the way she thought she would be perceived as an adventurer when she just was settling back into her routine lifestyle.
Many friends had started families and were moving in a different direction.
Now she is trying to find the balance between adventure, lifestyle and her career.
Reading lots of blogs, books and self analysis to assist her to find her way upon returning home.
Getting out of her bubble on her first 3 month trip put many things into perspective.
Anna used her inspiration from her travels to blogging, coach training and pondering her career.
3 things Anna have learned from travel.
Travel to step out of your bubble.
Be open to the growth and learning that travel can bring.
Travel with intention and for the right reasons.
Advise for others returning home: Trust your intuition, being curious, knowing there is no right answers and dont look outside yourself for the answers.
“Travel, I think, is the best way to grow and to meet new people an to shift your mindset on things. It just gets you out of that comfort zone.”

Travel to escape, tell stories and eat ANYTHING with Chanie Hyde (The Hungry Ginger)
Chanie aka The Hungry Ginger is a food and travel writer with a twist. Looking for strange or unusual food that makes most people say “ew.” She is always on the hunt for something unusual or “weird” to eat. Melbourne, Australia has treated her to the tastes of the world and inspired her to continue stuffing her face full of delicious foods and challenging tidbits both locally and abroad. She is always heading overseas and have been telling stories of her adventures for years but only recently she quit her ‘real’ job to actually ‘have a crack at it’ without the illusion of a “career.”
A travel writer with a difference, Chanie Hyde quit her job to step into the live she truely wanted.
About Chanie
Chanie aka The Hungry Ginger is a food and travel writer with a twist. Looking for strange or unusual food that makes most people say “ew.” She is always on the hunt for something unusual or “weird” to eat.
Melbourne, Australia has treated her to the tastes of the world and inspired her to continue stuffing her face full of delicious foods and challenging tidbits both locally and abroad.
She is always heading overseas and have been telling stories of her adventures for years but only recently she quit her ‘real’ job to actually ‘have a crack at it’ without the illusion of a “career.”
Chanie’s biggest mantra is “how do you know you don’t like it if you haven’t tried it?”
“I realised that success to me is not how much money you earn or how far up a ladder you climb in a company...success to me was being able to tell my stories.”
In the episode...
Chanie talks about how she travels around on her stomach, she is really curious to learn about what locals eat in different cultures. She talks about the craziest, weirdest, grossest thing she has eaten.
One of her favourite foods to eat is the ‘crispy beer snack’ and she talks about where she has found some of her favourites.
Some travel tips for when eating in other countries and how not to miss the BEST foods of the country you are travelling in.
When in China, she found herself outside her comfort zone having to navigate the culture.
The real reason Chanie travels because she is curious and feels there is more to life thank looking at it through a book or a documentary.
The 3 month soul searching trip Chanie went on where she realised how joyous she was because she tapped into adventure, travel and her passion in writing.
The idea of travel for escapism.
Why she quit her real job and how she ‘coped a lot of flack’ for doing so.
What success means to Chanie - its not about how much money she has or how high she could climb in a company.
Being dissatisfied after returning home from travel because she was coming home to a life that was not truely aligned to what she wanted.
Why travelling teaches so much about yourself.
Why she tries to show the real, hard stories on her social media.
Chanies advise to people who want to travel and adventure but are not at the moment - find the courage and bravery to do it. Look at your priorities and rearrange them to make it happen.
Rapid fire round
What was the last place you visited? Bali
A place you tell everyone to visit? Australia
